Transfer News: Tottenham receive blow in chase for Lautaro Martinez
According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Tottenham have received a blow in their efforts to sign Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine striker from Inter Milan has expressed his desire to remain at the club and will likely renew his deal with them. Arsenal were also understood to be after Martinez.
It’s not just Harry Kane’s situation that is bothering Spurs. Even if Kane stays back, Spurs are light on numbers in the forward line. Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale have departed the club after their loan spells ended last season. Now, if Kane leaves, Spurs would be left without a senior striker.
Nonetheless, Spurs have been after some strikers, just to be on the safe side. Lautaro Martinez is a name that has been doing the rounds and Tottenham even went as close to agreeing on a deal with Inter. However, Chelsea’s signing of Romelu Lukaku has put a spanner in the works.
Now, it seems Spurs might not get Martinez at all. The 23-year-old striker is said to be happy at Inter and could end up signing a new contract. Sport Italia reporter Gianluigi Longari spoke about how Martinez and his representative Alejandro Camano will sit down with the club for the same (h/t Daily Mail).
‘He doesn’t want to leave Inter. Scheduled next week [is] a meeting for talking about a contract extension.’
