Transfer News: Tottenham leading the race to sign Nikola Milenkovic
According to transfer news from Sky Sports (h/t ESPN), Tottenham are said to be leading the race for Nikola Milenkovic. Spurs have entered talks with Fiorentina for the Serbian defender ahead of West Ham. Milenkovic’s versatility is said to be appealing to Spurs and that is why they are keen on him.
Last season, Spurs looked defensively shaky. They could hardly protect leads during games and conceded goals with relative ease. The likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez were particularly underwhelming while Toby Alderweireld performed as well as he could. Joe Rodon showed that he can step up with time.
Milenkovic has grown into one of the most reliable defenders in Serie A since making the switch to Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade back in 2017. However, the Serbian international sees his contract expire with the Viola at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
Now, Spurs could be looking to get their hands on Milenkovic. The defender is a versatile customer who can play as centre-back and fullback as well. That is said to be appealing to Spurs and they have started talks with Fiorentina over a move. Spurs are hoping to get this deal done ahead of West Ham.

Despite the signing of Christian Romero, Spurs are keen on the 23-year-old Milenkovic. It’s not without reason though. Alderweireld has left the club and more quality names are needed. Sanchez and Dier are shaky at best, which means adding someone like Milenkovic is probably a good idea.
