Transfer News: Tottenham make €50m offer for Pau Torres
According to transfer news from Cadena SER (h/t ESPN), Tottenham have made a €50m offer for Pau Torres. However, the Villarreal defender seems to have turned down the move as he wants to play in the Champions League for his club.
The 24-year-old is coming off an excellent season that ended with him helping Villarreal beat us in the Europa League final. Add to that some confident showings for Spain in the Euros, Torres has seen his star rise in recent months. A calm and collected customer on the ball, he is one of the classic modern-day centre-backs.
Spurs recently underwent a defensive reshuffle with Toby Alderweireld leaving the club and Christian Romero coming in. However, Spurs were still keen on another defender and Pau Torres is who they wanted. Torres has a release clause of €65m but Villareal were willing to accept €50m from Spurs.
Tottenham were also hopeful that a deal could have been done. However, the defender is not really keen to make the move. He wants to play in the Champions League with Villarreal. The Spaniard is also wanted by the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and both Manchester clubs.
