Nuno makes Harry Kane claim after Tottenham beat Manchester City
Speaking to Sky Sports after his team beat Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo has claimed that Harry Kane still has a role to play with the side.
Tottenham kickstarted the Nuno era with a well-deserved 1-0 win against Premier League champions Manchester City at home on Sunday evening. A 55th-minute strike from Son Heung-min was enough to carry the Lilywhites over the line.
What made the win that much more special is that Spurs did it without their best player, Harry Kane, on the field. The England captain was left out of the matchday squad after he returned late to the pre-season training following his holidays post the UEFA Euro 2020.
Kane, at the same time, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer. Nuno, however, insists that the 28-year-old is among the best in the world and still has a role to play at Tottenham despite all the speculations.
“Look, Harry Kane is one of the best players in the world, honestly. We are very lucky to have him. He has to get ready and help the team. We still have to go to Portugal then we think about Wolves.”
Nuno also hailed the attitude and the work ethic of his team after the win, praising the players for the way they did their job against Manchester City.
“It’s very difficult to play against City with the way they build the first moment. It requires a lot of discipline so the boys did okay. I’m sure that with commitment and the talent we have, we will be a good team. We are in the process of that. I am learning every day and I am very proud of them today, very proud.”
