Transfer News: Jules Kounde not interested in Tottenham move
According to transfer news from Duncan Castles (h/t Express), Jules Kounde is not keen on a move to Tottenham. The Sevilla starlet, who has a £68million release clause, is said to prefer a move to Chelsea. It seems the lack of Champions League football is said to be an issue in this case.
Spurs have had a solid transfer window so far. Three new faces have come in, in the form of Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Cristian Romero. Fans got to see a bit of action from Romero as he was called upon the dying minutes against Manchester City. It seems Fabio Paratici is not done with business as yet.
Another central defender seems to be on the agenda for Spurs. Names such as Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic are on the radar. There is also the name of Jules Kounde from Sevilla but from the initial looks of it, Spurs might not really get a chance to pull it off.
Firstly, they will have to encounter competition from Chelsea. That wouldn’t be such an issue if Kounde’s preference for Champions League football was not there. Reputed journalist Duncan Castles shed some light on the issue (h/t Express).
“They’ve tried to get Jules Kounde, who Chelsea are ahead of them for. Jules Kounde hasn’t been impressed that they haven’t got Champions League football. The guidance I have is that Kounde would prefer Chelsea, should they be able to come to an agreement with Sevilla over a transfer fee in the last fortnight of the window, to Tottenham. Tottenham don’t appear to be able to make it happen because of the place they find themselves in the European football hierarchy.”

The lack of Champions League football was always going to be an issue as most players want to play in Europe’s top competition. Spurs, at least for this season, will be playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Hence, Kounde might be a name we might have cross off our list of targets for the summer.
