Transfer News: Tottenham have kept a deal for Lautaro Martinez in the pipeline
According to transfer news from Eurosport’s Dean Jones (h/t Football.london), Tottenham have kept a deal for Lautaro Martinez in the works. With Harry Kane’s future uncertain, Spurs are keeping contingency plans in place. One of them is to bring in Inter Milan star Martinez.
Kane’s future has been the subject of intense speculation over the summer. The striker wants to secure for a move away from the club. Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are the frontrunners for his signature and have even expressed interest in signing the Spurs striker if possible.
Without Kane, Spurs would be left with a natural striker in the side. Despite Son Heung-Min showing that he can lead the line, Spurs would still need another forward, preferably a striker. A few weeks back, Spurs reached close to an agreement of €60million with Inter Milan over a move for Martinez.
However, with Romelu Lukaku moving to Chelsea, that deal was left on the ice. Nonetheless, journalist Dean Jones believes that a deal for Martinez could well be on the cards if Kane does indeed leave.
“I do wonder if that is all ready to go if Kane goes. The more this drags on, the more I’m thinking Tottenham have got a deal in place here to sign Martinez if Kane goes. They’ve been an admirer of him for two or three years, and the plan leading into this was always that ‘if Kane goes we’re going to get Martinez’ – that’s what I’ve always been told.”

At just 23 years of age, Martinez is a striker that has blossomed well. He was a part of the Inter Milan side that won the Serie A last season and helped his side with his goals and link-up play. Martinez does look like a decent replacement for Kane. Spurs would be wise to pounce on him in case Kane leaves.
