Transfer News: Tottenham interested in signing Chelsea ace Kurt Zouma
According to transfer news from Sky Sports (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham have registered their interest in Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma. He is among the few defensive options being eyed by Spurs even after the signing of Cristian Romero. An issue that could hold this up is the Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich’s reluctance to sell to rivals.
Zouma has become a fringe player at Chelsea over the last season. He lost his place in the side after Thomas Tuchel took over. Since then, he has featured in the one-off games while the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva were preferred. Zouma also sat out the win over Crystal Palace this past weekend.
Chelsea are trying to get Jules Kounde and there is also the emergence of Trevoh Chalobah. That has somewhat put Zouma’s future hanging in the air. Chelsea have kept the option to sell open and are looking for £25million. A sale for Zouma will also help Chelsea fund the move for Jules Kounde.
While West Ham were understood to be interested in Zouma, it is now Spurs who have shown interest in the French defender. He is among the few options they are looking at in terms of defensive reinforcements. However, one sticking point might be Roman Abramovich’s reluctance to sell to a direct rival.

Tottenham are keen on adding another defender despite the addition of Romero. Zouma is a quality defender but wrangling him out of a rival side like Chelsea might be too difficult. If Spurs can get him, then it can be a very shrewd buy. But that ‘if’ is a very big one at this point.
