Transfer News: Tottenham expected to return with another bid for Domingos Duarte
According to transfer news from AS (h/t Express), Tottenham are set to return with another bid for Domingos Duarte. It is understood that their first offer of £6.8million was rejected and an improved offer will be made to Granada. Duarte has a release clause of £25.7m though.
If the last season showed anything, it was how badly the Spurs backline needed refurbishing. At times it felt like Toby Alderweireld was holding the fort all by himself. Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier might be looking good right now, but they sure dropped the ball on quite a few occasions last season.
Hence, it was no surprise to see Spurs going all out for Cristian Romero. The deal was done but Spurs are not done in terms of defensive recruitment. Domingos Duarte was a rather surprising name that had popped onto the radar recently. The Portuguese defender from Granada has been targeted by Spurs and their first offer has been rejected.
Nonetheless, Spurs are planning to come up with a better offer, perhaps something closer to his release clause of £25.7m. Granada are said to be open to talks and that has given some encouragement to Spurs over a potential deal.

Duarte may not be one of the elite names in the game but the 26-year-old has been an impressive player for Granada. He does his job quietly without much fuss and Spurs can use someone like that. Adding another defender can be a good move for this long season and an improved offer for Duarte should be step one.
