Report: Tottenham secretly working on a deal for 25-year-old midfield star

Cagliari are open to letting Nahitan Nandez leave Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Transfer News: Tottenham secretly working on Nahitan Nandez deal

According to transfer news from La Nuova (h/t Express), Tottenham are working behind the scenes on a deal for Nahitan Nandez. He is said to have a £30m release clause but a loan-to-buy deal is more likely. Much like Spurs, Inter Milan are interested in the Uruguayan as well.

It would not be entirely wrong to say that Spurs lack good midfielders apart from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele haven’t exactly stepped up to the challenge and it has often felt that only the Dane is keeping it together. Although, it must be noted that Oliver Skipp has made a solid impression in the new season so far.

Nonetheless, signing a new midfielder such as Nahitan Nandez is something that Tottenham would benefit from. The Uruguayan star is an important player at Cagliari and played a key role in saving the club from relegation last term. He is a rather versatile operator, capable of playing in all midfield positions.

Spurs have been after Nandez for a while now. However, after some initial issues, work is being done in the background to get the 25-year-old. His release clause of £30m looks unlikely to be paid by any club but it seems a loan-to-buy deal might be on the cards. Inter are also in the same position as Spurs.

Nandez is a tenacious midfielder to have in the side. He is capable of performing various roles and can be a handy asset for Nuno Espirito Santo if Spurs can manage to get him from Cagliari.
