Transfer News: Tottenham to battle Chelsea for Luis Diaz
According to transfer news from MaisFutebol (h/t The Sun), Tottenham will have to compete with rivals Chelsea for the signing of Luis Diaz. The Colombian is a man in demand after his exploits for club and country. Talks are set to take place between his camp and both the London clubs over a move from Porto.
Much like every international tournament, this year’s Euros and Copa America also gave rise to some new stars. Amidst all the talent on display from Brazil and Argentina, it was a certain Luis Diaz that stole the show for an unfancied Colombia side. His four important goals against Brazil, Peru and Argentina were enough to push them to third place.
He finished on equal goals with Lionel Messi himself, which is no mean feat. However, Diaz has actually been performing well for Porto since 2019. He won the league and cup double in his first season there. Finally, it seems his talents are being recognised on a large scale as interest starts to mount from England.
His advisors are set to reach England to hold talks over a potential move to the Premier League. Tottenham along with Chelsea officials are set to meet them to discuss the same. Diaz is said to have a £68million release clause but Porto are willing to accept an offer of £30million.

Diaz is an experienced winger that comes with a winning mentality. Spurs could use some of that during this rebuild under Nuno Espirito Santo. The price tag does seem modest but it will be difficult to get him especially with Chelsea also interested.
