Tottenham Hotspur are close to losing out on Ilaix Moriba this summer
According to journalist Max Bielefeld, Tottenham Hotspur are set to suffer a blow in the race to sign Ilaix Moriba this summer as he is close to signing for German outfit RB Leipzig.
One of the best young talents around, Ilaix Moriba had generated interest from several clubs this summer, including the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, Tottenham seemed to be frontrunners in the race to sign the 18-year-old and were also informed of a £17million price tag on the player. While that was the case, things seemed to have taken a turn for the worse for the North London outfit.
Moriba has agreed personal terms with German outfit RB Leipzig as they look to replace him for Marcel Sabitzer, according to journalist Max Bielefeld.
This would come as a huge blow for the London club as they were planning on completing a deal for the youngster and add handsomely to their midfield ranks. Although Spurs do have the likes of Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp in their midfield line, that may not be the case beyond the summer.
Harry Winks has been linked with a move to Everton this summer while Tanguy Ndombele has also not featured since Nuno Espirito Santo took the reins at the club and the Frenchman is now touted for a move away from North London.
Moreover, given that Moussa Sissoko recently completed a move to Watford, Spurs could be looking to fill that vacancy, something Moriba could have done well. The 18-year-old would have been the second teenage signing for the club this summer after Fabio Paratici also orchestrated a move for Pape Matar Sarr from Metz earlier this month, only to loan him back to the club.
Ilaix Moriba to RB Leipzig is looking more and more likely. The player’s side told Tottenham yesterday that they have made their choice to join the Bundesliga.
Moriba would be the replacement for Marcel Sabitzer. Fee around 20m€. #TransferUpdate
