Tottenham could suffer blow as Lautaro Martinez set to agree new contract at Inter Milan
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano (h/t football.london), Lautaro Martinez is set to put pen to paper on a new deal at Inter Milan, ruling out a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The Argentine, who was of huge interest to Spurs this summer, has taken a U-turn and might now end up staying at the San Siro. Earlier this summer, it was believed that the player had agreed to join the North London club in a move worth more than €60million.
While that was the case, London rivals Chelsea ruined things for their arch-rivals. The Blues orchestrated a £97.5million deal for Romelu Lukaku, which in turn left Inter Milan with the prospect of losing both their centre-forwards in the same summer.
Thus, a move for the Argentine failed to materialize, and he is now ready to commit his future to the club while the Italian giants are also set to remove the ‘buy-out clause’ in the player’s deal.
This would be a blow to the North London outfit, who were hoping to strengthen their frontline this summer. While Harry Kane is now set to stay put at Tottenham, Martinez would have made Spurs a more formidable side.
The 24-year-old managed 17 goals and 10 assists last season, courtesy of which he could have had a frightening strike partnership with Kane, who is set to stay at the club.
