Nuno Espirito Santo urges caution over Tottenham being top of the Premier League
According to Independent, Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has urged everyone to not read much into the club’s top spot in the Premier League. He urged that a lot of work still has to be done and things need to be improved despite the good start.
Three wins, three clean sheets and top of the table. Not even the most optimistic of Spurs fans would have expected the club to be topping the table after three games, especially with what happened last season. There is a sense of positivity around the side and it has been there to see in each of the three wins.
Son Heung-Min managed to stun Manchester City in the first game. Dele Alli’s penalty was enough against Wolves while Son again produced a bit of magic to get all three points over Watford. Credit has to go to the defenders as well who have kept things tidy at the back and ensured not one goal has gone past.
Excitement has been high as expected. After all, the club are top of the table heading into the international break. However, despite all the hullabaloo, manager Nuno Santo has urged everyone to not read much into the whole thing.
“That doesn’t mean anything at all, that doesn’t mean anything. I invite everybody, not only the players but our fans, to not pay attention to that. Don’t pay attention to that. Let’s keep on working, we still have a long way and a lot of aspects to improve on. That’s the beginning of everything. Always said the shape, organisation, being solid and compact because we have talent. Being consistent is what we are focused on and we have to keep on going.”
Nuno added some observations from the Watford win as well.
“Today we controlled very well the deep, Watford was clearly trying to make us go higher on our lines to play on our backs. The back four controlled very well. But at the same time, the second balls, we need to be anticipating that part of our game. Something we have to improve.”

It is surely way too early in the season to be making any sort of conclusions. There are 35 more games in the league to go and a lot happens over that time. All Spurs can do is improve upon what they have done so far. Keeping it simple and getting the job done.
