Transfer News: Tottenham close to deal for Emerson Royal
According to transfer news from Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are close to an agreement for Emerson Royal. Negotiations are still going on but the fee is expected to be around the €30m mark. It must be noted that Serge Aurier and Ilaix Moriba are not a part of the deal.
It’s rather surprising to see Spurs playing with a makeshift right-back despite having two specialists in that role. For some reason, Matt Doherty is yet to feature in the Premier League under Nuno Espirito Santo while Serge Aurier could be on his way out. As good as Japhet Tanganga is in that role, he may come with his limitations.
Tottenham and Barcelona are now close to reach an agreement for Emerson, as per @gbsans. Fee will be around €30m but negotiations are not completed yet ⚪️ #THFC #FCB
Serge Aurier won’t be involved in the deal. Personal terms still to be agreed. NO negotiations for Moriba-Spurs.

In light of that, Spurs have looked at Barcelona’s Emerson Royal. The Brazilian defender has been impressive for Real Betis over the last few seasons which prompted Barca to bring him back to the club and sign him outright. However, their well documented financial problems meant that assets will have to be sold.
Spurs initially proposed a swap deal including Serge Aurier. However, that was rejected as Barca wanted a full cash amount. Now, as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano can claim, Spurs are close to reaching an agreement for Emerson and the deal is said to be worth €30m. Negotiations are still on regarding other factors.

While there is no indication of it yet, Emerson’s addition can mean someone like Aurier could be sold and a deal with Lille could yet be done. The Brazilian can be a handy asset to the side with his attacking abilities. He could also provide some decent competition to Doherty which should bring out the best in both.
