Transfer News: Tottenham defender Serge Aurier wanted by Real Betis
According to transfer news from AS (h/t Football.london), Real Betis have been in talks with Tottenham over a move for Serge Aurier. The Ivorian has wanted to leave the club for a while and might bet his chance with Betis wanting him. Although, it is unclear at this point whether he will go out on loan or permanently.
There’s just something so very extreme about Serge Aurier. Either he will produce a top-notch performance or it will be a stinker. There is no middle ground. An explosive right-back, Aurier was signed from PSG back in 2017 but had to wait for his chances. Since Kieran Trippier left, he was the first choice.
However, as mentioned, he has had a mixed bag time at Spurs, often impressing in spurts and disappointing in equal measure. At the end of last season, he spoke about wanting a return to France and leaving Spurs. It would seem he will be getting his wish but only partly as Real Betis have shown an interest.
Betis lost Emerson Royal to Barcelona over the summer who is coincidentally heading to Spurs. And, in order to create room for the Brazilian, Tottenham might have to offload the Ivorian, meaning that they will have to bear some of the expenses of Aurier’s potential departure. Valued at £18m, it is not clear whether he will head out on loan or a permanent move.

With the arrival of Emerson imminent, Spurs will have too many players in the position. Plus with Aurier wanting to leave, it makes sense that they let him leave. It will help in recouping some of the cash spent on Emerson and get Aurier off the books as well.
