Transfer News: Tottenham to return for Houssem Aouar in January
According to transfer news from Express, Tottenham are very likely to return for Houssem Aouar in January. Despite the interest in the Lyon midfielder over the summer, no move materialised as Spurs did not act on their interest. Arsenal were also said to be after Aouar.
If one were to describe Spurs’ transfer window, it would be that the squad was refreshed. The club managed to clear out a lot of deadwood all while bringing in apt replacements for each departure. Interestingly, they also went after a lot of young players with potential, showing a change in transfer strategy.
✍️ We are delighted to announce the signing of Emerson Royal from @FCBarcelona! 🇧🇷
Welcome to Spurs! 🙌

While targets such as Emerson Royal, Pape Sarr, Cristian Romero, etc., were attained, other names such as Houssem Aouar did not make the cut. Aouar has been linked with Spurs through most of the summer along with Arsenal. It was finally claimed on deadline day that he was going to remain at Lyon for now.
However, Aouar could well be on the move within four months. His contract ends in less than two years and he has made no secret of his wish to leave the club. It would seem that Spurs are likely to return once the transfer window reopens in January. Rivals Arsenal are also expected to do the same. (h/t Express)

For all of Tottenham’s midfield options, not a lot of them provide the creativity and guile Aouar can. The Frenchman is a wonderful creative presence in the side and Spurs could use some of that. It will be interesting to see how much of an effort the north Londoners make next year on Aouar.
