Tottenham wanted to re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters before Emerson Royal
According to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Tottenham had plans to re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters before signing Emerson Royal. Apparently, the former Spurs man was on our wishlist as well as Everton’s. Eventually, the Lilywhites went ahead to sign Emerson from Barcelona.
From the looks of it, Spurs were out there this season to refresh their existing options at right-back. Serge Aurier had not impressed till that point and was highly inconsistent over the last few seasons. Matt Doherty hardly proved to be an upgrade as he struggled to familiarize himself with his new side and struggling to replicate his form at Wolves.

Hence, Spurs had to deploy Japhet Tanganga in a make-shift role on the right while simultaneously searching for a new name. Emerson Royal was finally signed on deadline day from Barcelona but it seems as if a certain Kyle Walker-Peters was on the radar of Spurs before the Brazilian.
The former Spurs defender was the subject of interest from Everton as well as us. Walker-Peters has established himself as a regular at Southampton ever since his move in 2020. Hence, it was not surprising that he was a hot target for the Premier League duo as claimed by Mike McGrath of The Telegraph.
#Everton made an enquiry for Kyle Walker-Peters in final days of the window. #SaintsFC were not entertaining any deal. Also on ex-club #Spurs radar before they moved for Emerson Royal

Spurs won’t have much to complain though as they ended up signing the promising Emerson from Barcelona. They also managed to offload Serge Aurier which counts as a bit of a bonus. For now, Emerson, Doherty and Tanganga are likely to battle it out for a starting spot in the side.
