Fabio Paratici opens up on the different approach to transfers at Tottenham
Speaking to the club’s official website, Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici opened up on the different approach Tottenham had to take on transfers. The Italian spoke about the challenges in the recently concluded transfer window and how he had to overcome them to build a new and young team.
It was truly a summer of change for Spurs and a much-needed one. Last season was one to forget as we finished a lowly seventh and produced a limp showing all through. Jose Mourinho had to be sacked and it was chaotic, to say the least. Spurs had to start fresh and they made a huge call.
Fabio Paratici was appointed as Managing Director in early June and since then he has worked tirelessly on all fronts to change things at the club. Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed and after that work began on transfers. A total of five players were signed while several more were offloaded in one of the best transfer windows for the club in recent memory.

Now that the hullabaloo of the transfer window is over, Paratici sat down and spoke about how Spurs had to change their approach on transfers. He added that it was even more difficult due to the pandemic. But the goal was to build a young team.
“The window was hard for everybody. So, the pandemic affected a lot this kind of market. We had an objective, a target, to renew the team. Young players, young talent with big potential and their hope is to win something with Tottenham – to win something with this great team.
“We have here a lot of players who, in my opinion, are big players that in the last two seasons have not been at their level of performance. So, our target, when me, Nuno and Steve (Hitchen, Technical Performance Director) met, was to reinvigorate the team, give more discipline, give more work in terms of physical work, more organisation, and Nuno did this kind of job very well.”

The work Paratici has put in is starting to show on the pitch. Spurs have won all three of their league games before the international break. They are the only side with a 100% record so far. Spurs and Paratici will know that work has only started. There is still a lot to do if the club is to get back to the upper echelons of English football.
