Ex-Tottenham ace Paul Robinson makes a prediction on Tanguy Ndombele future

Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Football.london), Paul Robinson was of the opinion that Tanguy Ndombele could become a real problem for Tottenham. The former Spurs and England keeper felt that Ndombele can be an asset when performing but there’s a real chance he could be an expensive bench warmer.

Despite all the optimism around the great start to the season, there exist certain intra-squad issues that Nuno Espirito Santo will have to get through. One of them has been the dilemma over Tanguy Ndombele. The club-record signing has not had the best of times at the club since joining.

He has struggled to win the trust of any of his managers which include the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho. He fell out of favour with the latter last season. Even this season, he has not won the trust of Nuno from what his absence in the side suggested so far. Ndombele even asked to leave the club but that was not possible.

Now, that the transfer window is closed, Ndombele will have to stay back at Spurs. Former Spurs keeper Paul Robinson opined that the club are in a very delicate position with the midfielder.

“He’s still the club’s record transfer. His wages are going to be huge and if he’s surplus to requirements, it’s going to be a difficult season for him. There are clearly issues off the field because it’s not just one manager he’s had a problem with, it’s both of them.

“When he plays and he’s on it, he looks brilliant but he doesn’t do it enough. It’s a catch 22 situation now because Spurs aren’t going to recoup anywhere near £60million if he’s not in the first team. If he does knuckle down there’s a role for him, it’s a really difficult situation. They could end up with a very expensive player on huge wages sat in the stands every week.”

Robinson is right in the sense that Ndombele can be a real asset if he starts performing. However, the reverse is also true as he can be a huge problem if he cannot break into the side. It promises to be an interesting season for Ndombele, Nuno and their association at Spurs.
