Pau Torres reveals he rejected Tottenham interest

According to AS (h/t Football.london), Pau Torres has gone on to reveal that Tottenham were interested in him but he rejected their advances. The Villarreal star claimed that he was aware of the interest from Spurs but wanted to continue at his current club.

Not a lot of people can deny that Spurs had a rather good transfer window. A number of players were signed to plug in gaps in the squad all while shipping out ageing players. In total, five players were signed but Pape Sarr will link up with the side only next season. Despite the fulfilment of so many targets, there were a few Fabio Paratci did miss.

Spurs were searching for a new defender after the departures of Toby Alderweireld and Juan Foyth. They managed to get Cristian Romero but it was clear that they wanted to fo after another name such as Pau Torres. After all, he was one of the best emerging defenders coming off a great season for club and country.

Spurs indeed made their interest known to the Spaniard. The player went on to confirm that as well but he also revealed that he rejected the offer and his reason as well.

“I am informed of Tottenham’s interest, but I have always been clear about what I wanted to continue at Villarreal. My idea was to live an exciting season, I was very clear about what I wanted and that was to stay at home and at Villarreal. Therefore, it was a quick decision.”

It was always going to be a difficult task to lure Torres. He is playing in the Champions League this season with his club after the Europa League win last season. Spurs, as it is known, will be playing in the Conference League. This could be counted as a missed opportunity as Torres might have been attained in different circumstances.
