Emerson Royal could be handed Tottenham debut against Crystal Palace
According to Football.london, Emerson Royal could be handed his Tottenham debut against Crystal Palace. With so many players injured and ruled out, changes will have to be made to the team. That could allow the Brazilian to make his bow for his new side.
The international break has hit Spurs harder than most of the clubs. With the game against Crystal Palace in three days time, Spurs could be without a maximum of seven players. The trio of Davinson Sanchez, Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso are ruled out as they quarantine while the quartet of Son Heung-Min, Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp and Steven Bergwijn is injured.
While the extent of the injuries is unknown, the quarantine of Sanchez and Romero could end up handing an opening for new signing Emerson Royal. So far, Japhet Tanganga has been deployed at right-back but given the situation, he might just have to shift in to play as a centre-back.
That could potentially allow Emerson to come in and feature in his original position of a right-back (h/t Football.london). However, it is also hard to say if he is thrown into the deep end against someone like Wilfried Zaha who has a tendency to trouble full-backs. Nuno Espirito Santo could well decide to go with Matt Doherty who is a more established name.
