Emiliano Martinez reveals why Tottenham duo of Romero and Lo Celso got into problems
Argentina keeper Emiliano Martinez explained why the Tottenham duo of Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero had to face so many problems by travelling for the international games (h/t Football.london). He spoke about how they wanted to play for their nation and went ahead despite the Premier League ruling to not allow players to go.
It has been a tumultuous few days for the Argentina players. Last Sunday, they were scheduled to take on Brazil in the WC Qualifiers. However, a host of Premier League sides had barred their South American stars from going as they would have to quarantine for 10 days on returning, thereby ruling them out for a few games.
The Spurs duo of Lo Celso and Romero went regardless and so did the Aston Villa duo of Martinez and Emi Buendia. No sooner did the game begin, health officials and police came on to the pitch to stop the game and confronted the Spurs duo for breach of quarantine rules (h/t Football.london). The whole situation gave a bad rap to the players.
Martinez explained why they chose to play
With disciplinary proceedings going on from FIFA, Tottenham have decided to fine their stars. However, Martinez went onto explain why they went ahead with decision to play.
“The four of us from England decided to leave (to join Argentina) for the love of the shirt. As much as those from the Premier League did not want to come, we still decided to travel. After winning the Copa America, everyone wanted to be in the group.”
