Revealed: Real Madrid star forward Marco Asensio rejected approach from Tottenham
According to Marca (h/t Express), Real Madrid attacking star Marco Asensio turned down an approach from Tottenham in the summer. The Spaniard was the subject of interest from a number of clubs over the summer. Spurs were the most interested but he chose to remain at Madrid.
Spurs acted smartly in the last transfer window and went after players they needed in the long term as well as names that could improve the side right away. Names like Bryan Gil, Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal were shrewd buys that can pay off well. They also managed to sell ageing players such as Toby Alderweireld and Moussa Sissoko.
However, Spurs and Fabio Paratici did end up missing some targets. One of them was Marco Asensio of Real Madrid (h/t Express). Once the crown jewel of the club, Asensio has seen his stock plummet over the last few seasons. Injuries haven’t helped either, with his form taking a beating of late.
Nonetheless, Paratici was pretty keen on the 25-year-old. He made a rather appealing offer for him by promising a prominent role in the attack for Spurs. While Real Madrid were open to the idea of letting him go, the player rejected the offer and chose to stay back. He wanted to win back his place under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Spurs did not exactly return empty-handed in terms of attackers in the transfer window. Bryan Gil is a good signing for the future. While it is hard to say how Asensio would have done, Spurs could have benefitted from bringing in an additional attacker. However, not much could have been done in this case as the player refused the move.
