Nuno Espirito Santo speaks out on the transfer window and Emerson Royal

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo opened up on the transfer window and Emerson Royal. The Portuguese was relieved that the transfer window was over and how well Emerson was settling in at the club since his move.

It was a rather good transfer window for Spurs and their different approach was visible in the players they brought in. The summer saw the arrival of players such as Emerson Royal, Bryan Gil, Pierluigi Gollini, Pape Sarr and Cristian Romero. Almost all of the new signings are young and hungry players with the potential to improve vastly.

Gil has already made his debut for Spurs.

The departures saw the ageing and fringe players depart, thereby easing the wage bills. Gone were the likes of Erik Lamela, Toby Alderweireld, Moussa Sissoko, Danny Rose and Joe Hart. On being asked if he was happy with the transfers this summer, here’s what Nuno had to say:

“I assess it that I’m happy that it’s finished. Not only me, I think all the managers are happy that it’s finished because during it there is uncertainty, things you can’t control, but yeah we have the squad and this is how we’re going to go, and we’re strong and happy.”

Nuno gave his first impression of Emerson

Emerson was among those late signings of the window and the international break gave him a good chance to integrate into the side. So far, he has been a part of some training sessions and a debut should be on the cards soon. Nuno also gave his verdict on the Brazilian.

“He’s a good player. He’s very talented. He showed himself in La Liga, which is a tough competition. We signed him because we believe he can help us. He’s an offensive full-back. He has aspects to improve and that’s our job.”

The manager also added that he is settling in well at the club and the other players are trying to make it comfortable for him.

“He has settled in well, he has to improve his English. He only hangs around with Lucas at this moment, which is normal, but he has settled in well. He is a good player and the way the group is operating any player that joins us is integrated well because the boys are aware that everybody should feel comfortable and in a nice environment so Emerson is okay.”

It was surely a successful transfer window that has made the squad just that bit stronger. Nuno will be hoping that he can integrate the new names into the side soon. So far, only a few names have been seen in action while others such as Emerson are yet to feature.

Their next task, for now, would be to continue their winning run against Crystal Palace this weekend. The Lilywhites have won all three of their games, having conceded 0 goals in that time.
