Phil Thompson shares his concerns over Tottenham Hotspur after perfect Premier League start
Speaking on the ‘Where’s Jeff?’ podcast (h/t Football.london), Phil Thompson was of the opinion that Tottenham will collapse in the future. Even with the good start to the season, the pundit believes that it will not be sustainable for Spurs and after a few games, they will eventually fall off the track.
It has been a wild start to the season for Spurs. Firstly, their transfer activity must be applauded with a host of quality players coming through the door. The departures were also ruthless with most of the ageing players being shifted out to make way for younger talents. They even managed to keep Harry Kane.
All that has led to Spurs wrapping up three wins from the opening three games. They were the only side with that record, sitting top of the league ahead of the international break. Things could get a bit tricky from now on as Spurs start their Carabao Cup and Conference League campaigns.
Pundit Phil Thompson felt that Spurs’ wheels are likely to come off soo and that they cannot sustain this run (h/t Football.london).
“Once they [Spurs] get a few wins…they can go for about half a dozen games unbeaten but then they can fall off very, very quickly. That has been the problem…and I would expect that somewhere in the near future. You’ve kept clean sheets, the defence is well organised, Nuno Espirito Santo’s got them organised. I don’t think there is anything up with that. They are Spurs and they will have that collapse, sooner rather than later.”

It is surely difficult to maintain this run of form but Spurs will be hoping they can keep up the momentum. A loss or a draw can surely come any time but there should be the belief to win every time they step out on the pitch.
