Eric Dier forced off with an injury during Tottenham loss

Tottenham defender Eric Dier had to be taken off with an injury during the loss against Crystal Palace (h/t Football.london). It was during the 12-minute mark that Dier collided with Jordan Ayew and had to walk off. Not much is known at this stage but from the looks of it, it seems to be a knee problem.

If Tottenham thought they had problems, it was only getting started. Nuno Espirito Santo had to put out a patched-up side that missed the services of Cristian Romeo, Davinson Sanchez, Giovani Lo Celso, Son Heung-Min and a few more names. Oliver Skipp was passed fit for the game while Emerson Royal was handed a debut.

No sooner did Spurs start the game than they got another huge blow. Within just 12 minutes, Eric Dier had to be subbed off due to an injury. The English defender went into a challenge with Ayew and seemed to come off worse. An initial viewing suggests that there is a knee problem and not much else is clear.

The only encouraging thing was Dier not needing to be stretchered off. He walked off by himself while Joe Rodon came on in his place for the first appearance under Nuno. Spurs were already without two of their central defenders and then went on to lose another through suspension as Japhet Tanganga was booked twice.

Nuno’s headaches have surely compounded with what happened during the loss. Dier’s injury will need to be assessed and any long term layoff can be detrimental. With the first loss coming against Palace, Spurs cannot let morale go down. They will have to pick themselves up and be ready for the Rennes game.
