Dimitar Berbatov gives his verdict on Harry Kane missing out on Manchester City move
Speaking to Betfair (h/t Football.london), Dimitar Berbatov felt that Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane was still mulling over the failed move to Manchester City. It was Kane’s display against Crystal Palace on the weekend that prompted the former Spurs striker to make such a statement.
Last week’s result has stripped Spurs of any optimism they had ahead of the international break. All the momentum that they built from those three wins was gone as Crystal Palace tore down a 10-man Tottenham at Selhurst Park. Granted there was a red card but the fact is that too many players dropped poor performances.
Tottenham’s attack was as toothless as it could be without any sort of service from the midfield. Harry Kane, who had been denied a move to Manchester City in the summer, was leading the line but managed to get a grand total of zero touches in the opposition box.
Former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov felt that the missed move to City might still be on Kane’s mind as he produced that kind of performance.
“Tottenham have great players but if you aren’t consistent you have nothing. Harry Kane didn’t have a touch in the opposition box at Selhurst Park, the first time that’s happened in his career. He’s still brooding about not getting his move to City.”
He went on to empathize with the striker as he too experienced something similar during his Tottenham days.
“Trust me, I’ve been in Kane’s situation and there are lots of emotions going through his head at the moment. He will be thinking: ‘What if that transfer had happened and I was playing for City now?’ He needs to stay mentally strong because he is one of the best in the world. Once he starts scoring he will put the summer behind him and concentrate on performing for Spurs.”

Spurs will need Kane to get his act together. He is yet to score in the Premier League this season and his confidence will need some boosting. Quite how that will happen is another topic for another day. But for now, the goals need to start flowing somehow.
Could it be against Chelsea this weekend in the London derby? Fans would certainly hope that turns out to be the case.
