Tottenham Hotspur duo Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn join injury list
According to The Athletic (subscription required), Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn are the latest Tottenham Hotspur players to join the club’s injury list. The duo was taken off against Rennes and are now doubtful to face Chelsea on the weekend.
It would seem Spurs and Nuno Espirito Santo cannot catch a break. Over the last two weeks, Spurs have lost key players to injuries and quarantine. Son Heung-min, Oliver Skipp, Ryan Sessegnon and Steven Bergwign were the casualties of the international break. Just when Oliver Skipp was fit to play against Crystal Palace, Spurs lost Eric Dier to injury.
The Rennes fixture saw Bergwijn return to action but Spurs were still without a number of players. While the quarantined trio of Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Davinson Sanchez is set to return soon, Spurs have lost two more names to injury. Bergwijn was the first to go on his return to the starting XI after just 30 mins.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg came on in his place. Then Lucas Moura had to be taken off in the second half as Dane Scarlett took his place. Spurs managed to play out a draw but those injuries have put them in a doubtful position to play against Chelsea in the London derby on the weekend.
Nuno Espirito Santo was not too happy about the injuries either as he spoke about the piling problems over the last week or so. He was not sure if the duo would be fit to play Chelsea.
“I cannot tell you. They are being taken care of by the medical department. But it’s been tough. It feels painful, it feels really bad.”

Spurs are still waiting on the fitness of Son and Dier but it’s not clear what the issue is with Lucas and Berwijn. This is not a good position to be in while preparing to face Chelsea who are in good form. Nuno will be scratching his head as to how he can put out a decent XI on Sunday.
