Transfer News: Tottenham among clubs interested in Matthias Ginter
According to transfer news from Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), Tottenham are among the clubs that are interested in Matthias Ginter. The German defender will see his contract expire at the end of the season at Borussia Monchengladbach. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Inter Milan are the other sides in contention for his signature.
A youth product of SC March and SC Freiburg, Ginter was given the first taste of senior football way back in 2012. After more than 80 appearances for Freiburg, Ginter headed to Dortmund in 2014, and enjoyed a good spell there, winning the DFB Pokal and the DFL Super Cup.
He made a total of 102 appearances for them before departing for Borussia Monchengladbach. Now at Gladbach, he has settled in well and is a regular fixture in the backline with 152 appearances and 10 goals to his name. No wonder he has become a target for some of the top teams in Europe.
However, that is not the only reason. Ginter will see his current deal at Gladbach run out in less than a season and an extension looks far from happening. That has led clubs like Tottenham, Bayern, Real Madrid and Inter to take an interest as he can be approached for a pre-contract agreement in January itself.

It’s hard to say whether Spurs really need another defender after the addition of Cristian Romero. However, Ginter is a quality centre-back who might represent an upgrade on the likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez. Regardless, he won be easy to prise away give the number of clubs after him.
