Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could revisit interest in Antonio Rudiger

According to transfer news from Express, Tottenham Hotspur could look to go after Antonio Rudiger should he not sign a new deal with Chelsea. The German defender wants to double his current pay while Chelsea are offering much less. Refusal to sign could force Chelsea to consider a sale.

Notwithstanding the rivalry between the two clubs, Antonio Rudiger is surely one of the best defenders in the league. He has grown in importance at Chelsea over the last few seasons. However, he was almost close to an exit in 2020 and Rudiger admitted that Tottenham and PSG were in talks with him.

Instead, he managed to push his way back into the side and made himself an indispensable asset for the club under Thomas Tuchel. He was a vital part of the side that won the Champions League. Regardless, his contract situation is not exactly in the best state. He will see his contract run out over this season and will be a free agent in 2022.

Rudiger wants a wage packet of £200,000 a week which is double his current pay. Chelsea though, are willing to offer only £150,000 a week. Should the 28-year-old not agree on the deal, Chelsea could take the decision to sell him in January. That is where Spurs come in and they can make an offer for the German.

It’s not that Spurs overly need a new defender having signed Cristian Romero recently. However, if there is a chance to sign an established and quality Premier League defender from a rival side, one should take it. January could prove to be an interesting time to keep an eye out for this.
