Transfer News: Tottenham prepared to move for Roger Ibanez

According to transfer news from Calciomercato (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur have Roger Ibanez on their radar for January. Fabio Paratici is ready to swoop for the Roma defender as the club starts work on bringing in a few potential names for the next year.

Tottenham went through a bit of a defensive reshuffle over the last season. Stalwarts like Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen left while new faces like Joe Rodon and Cristian Romero were brought into the fold. However, from the last two league games, it is somewhat evident that they could do with another quality option.

For that, they are looking to raid their former boss Jose Mourinho’s new club, AS Roma. Roger Ibanez, the 22-year-old Brazilian is apparently on Spurs’ and Paratici’s radar. The youngster has enjoyed a good spell in Italy, especially since joining Roma on loan in 2020 and then permanently a year later. A flexible defender, Ibanez is comfortable at full-back as well.

At just 22, Ibanez has made 57 appearances for the Italian side and is now a regular in Mourinho’s setup. It speaks volumes of his talent and potential that he has already amassed so many games. Paratici will have some advantage in dealing with the Serie A players, already bringing in the likes of Romero and Pierluigi Gollini this season.

Ibanez knows the pair from during their time at Atalanta and that should bode well for Spurs. Given his age, Ibanez can be a good investment opportunity that could bear fruits in the long run. Tottenham would be wise to act on this interest once the transfer window reopens in January. He could well go on to be a better option than the inconsistent pair of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.
