Nuno Espirito Santo running the risk of getting sacked at Tottenham
Speaking on the Gold and Guest Podcast (h/t Express), Alasdair Gold spoke about how Nuno Espirito Santo is already at the risk of getting sacked by Tottenham Hotspur. The Spurs correspondent for Football.london felt that the new manager might not have the time he needs to turn things around at the club.
Cut back to the end of August and Spurs were flying high. They won their opening three games while conceding zero goals meaning that they were top of the league. There was a renewed optimism after the last season which was disastrous by epic means. Then came the international break.
Spurs were severely shot down by the break with injuries and quarantine issues. On the restart, Spurs were handed their first loss of the season in the league. Crystal Palace took full advantage of a sending off. In the following week, Chelsea dealt them another loss as Spurs slumped to 7th place.
In between that there was a disappointing 2-2 draw against Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League. And Spurs then just about managed to get into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, beating Wolves on penalties on Wednesday.
Nuno has come under increasing pressure due to the results. Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold spoke about how Nuno is running low on time and is already under the risk of getting sacked.
“I just feel he needs a little bit of time, but I’m just worried whether the time is there for him. We know the background, we know the fans, most of them didn’t really want him as the manager in the first place. I think he raised expectations with those early wins, you know, beating Manchester City and all that, whatever we’re now rewriting those games to be.”

It’s rather premature to point the finger at Nuno. The man has hardly been at the job for a few months and within the last few weeks, he has dealt with a plethora of problems. Granted the last few results have not been encouraging and the football isn’t exactly rip-roaring. However, he needs to be afforded some time to showcase his ability and turn things around.
