Tottenham unhappy and losing patience with Giovani Lo Celso
According to The Athletic (subscription required), those at Tottenham Hotspur are unhappy and slowly losing patience with Giovani Lo Celso. His output and attitude have raised questions over his place in the side and the recent gaffe with Argentina did little to ease the tensions.
It’s hard to judge how Giovani Lo Celso has fared at Spurs since his move from Real Betis in 2019. Initially signed on loan, Spurs took the decision to make the deal permanent for £27.2m. However, the Argentine has hardly ever had a run of games in the side with repeated injuries and other issues.
A paltry return of 7 goals and 4 assists in two seasons is a stark contrast to the 25-year-old’s stints at Real Betis and PSG. He has simply not produced the desired impact that Spurs wanted since the departure of Christian Eriksen. Another issue has been his attitude. He was fined for breaching lockdown rules last December.
The bigger issue was his choice to join the national side in the last international break despite knowing that he would miss a number of games on his return due to quarantine. He did end up missing two along with his mates Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez. That has put his name on the scanner as those in the club hierarchy are said to be unhappy over him and slowly losing patience.

Lo Celso was even fined for his decision to join Argentina this month by the club. In a way, Lo Celso’s time at the club can be described as underwhelming. He has lit up the side on rare occasions pointing to the fact that he has the talent. However, for Spurs, it is far too rare to see those occasions.
