Paul Merson feels Arsenal will finish above Tottenham Hotspur this season
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Paul Merson has claimed that Arsenal will finish above Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this season.
The North London rivals have gone off to contrasting starts this season. Spurs began their campaign in top form as they defeated reigning champions Manchester City. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were also top of the table before the international break earlier this month.
However, since then, the club have suffered defeats to Crystal Palace and Chelsea and have dropped down to 10th place in the table. Arsenal, on the other hand, suffered three defeats at the start of the season and were in the relegation zone at one point.
However, the club have gone on to pick up 2 victories post the international break against Norwich and Burnley. The Gunners could now go above Tottenham if they win in the North London derby on Sunday.
Paul Merson lauded Arsenal’s performance against Burnley last weekend and believes they will finish above Spurs this season. He told Sky Sports (h/t Metro):
“He (Arteta) went out and tried to play football. I thought they were very, very comfortable. I’ve seen them win there many a time at Burnley, it’s a good hunting ground for them, but they struggled and nicked a goal, and you think, ‘how have they won that?
“I thought they [Arsenal] were majorly comfortably. It was a good result. If you’re asking me, I think Arsenal finish above Tottenham.”
