Ronnie Edwards is a target for Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Peterborough United ace, Ronnie Edwards

According to the Manchester Evening News, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a deal for Peterborough United centre-back Ronnie Edwards.

Spurs added handsomely to their squad this summer as they got in five new players, however, Fabio Paratici used a brilliant strategy this summer. Spurs’ new director of football signed young players rather than players above the age of 25 or 26.

Additions like Bryan Gil, Cristian Romero, Emerson Royal were smart moves, but a clever coup by the North London club was the signing of Pape Matar Sarr, who was on the radar of several clubs. Spurs convinced the player of their project and swooped him from FC Metz, before loaning him back to the Ligue 1 outfit.

The London club will have to do something similar again as they are now interested in a deal for youngster Ronnie Edwards. The defender is currently plying his trade at Peterborough United under Sir Alex Ferguson’s son, Darren Ferguson.

The youngster is highly rated and a great talent, according to Peterborough’s director of football, Barry Fry. He told Peterborough Telegraph (h/t Manchester Evening News):

“Ronnie is a Rolls Royce. I used to watch a lot of U18s football at Barnet as well as Posh and I told the gaffer about him. And when we brought him in for a game, Darren watched him for 20 minutes and told me to sign him.

“[He] is money in the bank for the club. He’s a certainty to have an outstanding career in the game, but there’s no better place and no better manager than Darren Ferguson, to help him develop quickly.”

Although the 18-year-old is a great talent, signing him will not be easy. Sir Alex Ferguson has already suggested the centre-back to Manchester United, while Brentford are also keen on a deal.

Thus, with two other Premier League clubs potentially in the running for the Englishman’s signature, it remains to be seen whether Fabio Paratici can work his magic again and get a deal over the line for Edwards.
