Paul Merson believes Nuno Espirito Santo could be sacked after another embarrassing defeat
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t The Sun), Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Nuno Espirito Santo could be out of the Tottenham Hotspur job if he suffers another embarrassing defeat.
The Portuguese boss has come under huge pressure in recent weeks after suffering to pick up victories against any of his London rivals. Although a defeat against Crystal Palace was understandable as they went out down to 10 men after just half an hour, losing to rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have not gone down too well.
Moreover, it is the manner of the defeat. All three clubs scored 3 goals against the North London outfit, with Arsenal managing to do so in the first half an hour of the game.
Paul Merson now believes that the players on the pitch were not playing for Nuno Espirito during the defeat against the Gunners on Sunday. He told Sky Sports (h/t The Sun):
“I’ve always liked Nuno and thought he would get a top job, but there are ways of getting beat at football, and those players were not running through a brick wall for him on Sunday. And that is where the worry starts.”
Merson also claimed that another defeat like that could cost the Portuguese his job.
“If the players want someone out, they are out – one more game like that and Nuno is gone, Spurs will not mess about, they can’t have that.”

The 47-year-old manager will also be worried about the fact that his star forward in Harry Kane is yet to score a Premier League goal this season. Although Nuno has managed to keep the club afloat in the Cup games, an early exit in any one of them could also spell trouble.
The major attention will now be on the weekend game against Aston Villa, who will be gearing up for the game after their victory against Manchester United last Saturday.
