Tottenham Hotspur set to let go of Dele Alli next summer

According to Football Insider (h/t ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur are ready to let go of Dele Alli in the summer of 2022.

The English midfielder has failed to impress in the last couple of seasons ever since Mauricio Pochettino left the club in November 2019. The North London outfit had signed the 25-year-old in 2015 from MK Dons under the stewardship of the Argentine.

For the next three to four years, Alli impressed with his performances as he was a great partner in the frontline for Harry Kane. The English striker also flourished alongside the midfielder, courtesy of which Spurs were securing finishes in the Top 4 year-in and year-out.

However, since making it to the Champions League final in 2019, the Englishman’s form has deteriorated. After Jose Mourinho arrived at the club a year and a half ago, the 25-year-old seemed to have picked up some good form.

However, things changed last season after the Portuguese boss started to use Tanguy Ndombele more frequently while Heung-Min Son and Kane had formed a formidable partnership up top.

Thus, Alli could only make 29 appearances across all competitions last term as he scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in the process. However, most of the appearances were off the bench as he racked up lesser than 1500 minutes.

Spurs, in fact, were ready to let the Englishman leave this summer itself, but there was a lack of suitors. Moreover, it is thought that a move in January is also unlikely as the club believe that his value could improve over the course of the season, according to Football Insider (h/t ESPN).

Hence, after spending more than half a decade in North London, Alli could be on his way out of the club next summer.
