Darren Bent issues transfer warning to Tottenham ahead of January window
Speaking on talkSPORT (h/t football.london), former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has issued a transfer warning to the club ahead of the upcoming January window.
Tottenham endured an eventful summer window that saw the club bring in five new players while keeping hold of Harry Kane amid serious interest from Manchester City. However, not all the new signings have hit the ground running for the Lilywhites while Kane himself has started the new campaign on a dull note.
The midweek hat-trick against NS Mura aside, the England captain has largely underwhelmed and looks distracted from the events of the summer. And, given the way things are, Bent is of the opinion that it would be in the best interests of everyone involved that Kane secures a switch to Manchester City, who themselves look in dire need of a No.9.
“It just depends on the situation with the two clubs. It might be best for all concerned that he goes to Manchester City, and Spurs get whatever they want – £150million.”
Bent insisted that such a move would allow Nuno Espirito Santo to dip his toes into the market and reinforce his squad. However, he did add that such a move would be fraught with risk as clubs will demand a premium fee for players especially when they are aware that Tottenham have the cash to burn.
“It gives Nuno [Espirito Santo] a chance to dip quickly into the transfer market. But that’s the only thing. Especially in a short window like January, when everyone knows you’ve got £150m to spend, all of a sudden the players’ prices just go up.”

The situation surrounding Kane is unfavourable currently. However, it is very much unlikely that Daniel Levy & co. would even entertain the possibility of letting him leave midway through the season even though January reinforcements may be necessary.
