Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo could be sacked without compensation if club fails to secure European football
According to The Athletic (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo could be sacked if he fails to secure European football with the club next season.
The Portuguese manager has had a mixed start to his life at Spurs. He started the season in fine fashion as the club went on to win its first 3 Premier League games which propelled them to the top of the table. The London-based club then dropped off the pace as they recorded 3 consecutive losses in the PL including the embarrassing 3-1 defeat to fellow rivals Arsenal.
Their recent victories against NS Mura in the UEFA Europa Conference League and Aston Villa in the league will bring the 47-year-old some respite. According to the report by The Athletic (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur have included a clause that could leave the former Wolves coach hanging high and dry.
The Portuguese manager has signed a two-year contract with Spurs but the report suggests that the club could sack him halfway through without having to pay any compensation if the season does not go as planned for them. Despite these reports being circulated a Tottenham Hotspur spokesperson has denied the existence of any such clause in their current manager’s contract.
The North London club have had to witness a lot of turmoil recently with Jose Mourinho being replaced by an interim manager just before their Carabao Cup final last season. Harry Kane’s future at the club has also been subject to discussion in the recent past.

The former Wolves manager has had an indifferent start where he won the PL manager of the month award at the start of the season, but his team’s performances deteriorated in recent weeks. Nuno had done a commendable job to make Wolves a respectable team in England’s top flight but may have to work much harder if he is to be associated with Spurs for a longer duration.
