Tottenham Hotspur in discussions with Argentina, Brazil and Colombia to release first-team quartet early from international duty

The players in contention here are Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero from Argentina, Davinson Sanchez from Colombia and Brazilian defender Emerson Royal who have been called up by their respective national teams for World Cup Qualification matches.
In the World Cup Qualification fixtures, Colombia will be playing against Brazil in their second qualifier, while Argentina will host neighbours Uruguay over the weekend.
In such a situation, Spurs face being without these players on Sunday, October 17, against Aston Villa. The quartet would be missing a trip to St. James’ Park unless they are allowed to return to London after the second match.
Under the new rules, players who travel to red zone countries during the international break will be able to train with the rest of the squad and play matches during a 10-day quarantine at the club’s training ground when they return provided that they have completed their vaccination process.
During the qualification round last month, Spurs did come to an agreement with the Argentine and Colombian national associations to release Lo Celso, Romero and Sanchez after two matches. Nevertheless, they missed two club games during 10 days’ quarantine in Croatia in order to prevent them from being forced into a quarantine hotel in the UK. (h/t Evening Standard)

Given the current form of the North London club, the presence of Lo Celso becomes important since the Argentine has been in solid form lately and can initiate play with intensity for Spurs. On the other hand, Romero and Sanchez provide stability to the Spurs defence that has been vulnerable this season. Emerson Royal has also impressed playing as a right-back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
