Weston McKennie, Alessandro Bastoni among four players on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar in January
According to the Times (Subscription Required), Alessandro Bastoni, Weston McKennie, Mohamed Simakan, and Anthony Gordon could all be the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming transfer window.
Fans would remember Spurs’ heavy links with 21-year-old Gordon in the summer transfer window but Everton’s price tag put them off. Richarlison was our only addition in attack in that window.
In an ideal scenario, we sign Gordon, McKennie, and one out of Bastoni and Simakan. The reason is clear.
Injuries to Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son Heung-min, and Lucas Moura have shown that we could do with another top-quality addition to our frontline. Midfield, meanwhile, has been a bit drab at times.
Spurs need January reinforcements
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur are pretty good but Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp have failed to impress. The story is the same in defence.
Clement Lenglet’s performances this season, at times, would have made our fans feel relieved that he is only here on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona. Eric Dier and Cristian Romero are great, but they aren’t immune to injuries and fatigue.
Simakan, 22, is on a long-term contract at RB Leipzig which only expires in the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt). This could either make him an expensive target for us, or Leipzig could keep him for the time being.
Bastoni, in that regard, seems like a more attainable option. He has played under manager Antonio Conte during their time at Inter Milan and the 23-year-old has been heavily linked with us in recent months.

As for Gordon, he isn’t the only forward in the world we can buy. If the Toffees play hardball again, missing out on him won’t be the end of the world. But signing a defender and a midfielder is the need of the hour for us.
