Opponent Watch: Newcastle United could have Callum Wilson return from injury for the Tottenham Hotspur game
According to a statement from the club (h/t Shields Gazette), Newcastle United could welcome back Callum Wilson from injury ahead of their game against Tottenham Hotspur.
The 29-year-old centre-forward has been an incredible player for the club since he made the move last summer and was a vital reason why the club avoided relegation. The English forward made 26 Premier League appearances last season and managed to score 12 goals in the process, thereby scoring 26% of the club’s total goals (46).
He entered the new season with the same gusto and was firing on all cylinders as he found the back of the net against both West Ham United and Southampton. However, he suffered a thigh injury in late August and has since been unavailable for selection.
The Geordies are yet to win a game this season and will be boosted by the fact that the striker could now make a return on the weekend against Tottenham. A statement from the club read (h/t Shields Gazette):
“Callum Wilson and Jamaal Lascelles are close to stepping up their respective returns from injury.”
Already boosted by the new Saudi ownership, the crowd would be buzzing inside St. James’ Park on Sunday.

Spurs would not have happy memories of Wilson as he scored a 97th-minute equalizer against them when the two clubs met for their first tie in the league last season. In fact, Tottenham were held to a draw in the second tie as well after a Joseph Willock-inspired come-back ensured a point for the Magpies.
Nuno Espirito Santo would be planning on fielding a strong defence, especially if Wilson plays as the 29-year-old is extremely lethal in front of goal. Regardless, Spurs would be aware that they are only 2 points off the Top 4 and could make it into those positions with a victory and provided the other results go their way.
