Ramon Vega urges Tottenham Hotspur to give Hugo Lloris a new contract at the club
Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ramon Vega has urged the Lilywhites via his Twitter account to give Hugo Lloris a new contract after his heroics in the UEFA Nations League (h/t Football.london).
The 34-year-old French international played an instrumental part in their 2-1 victory over Spain in the final to lift the Nations League title. Lloris has been a dependable asset for club and country throughout his tenure. The French goalkeeper shows no signs of stopping even at this age.
Hugo Lloris made the switch to the North London club for £11.3million back in 2012 from the Ligue 1 team Lyon. Ever since his arrival at the club, the goalkeeper has made 380 appearances for the Lilywhites and has kept clean sheets in 129 of those matches.
The French goalkeeper has been Spurs preferred man in between the sticks for years now. The 34-year-old has also notched up 134 caps for his nation. The Lilywhites goalkeeper has been performing at the top level consistently for a long duration now. His importance to the team at times can get overshadowed due to the performances of star forwards like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
Hugo’s contract with the club expires at the end of the season and he would thus become a free agent if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Switzerland defender’s tweet expressed his view on the situation as he urged his old club to immediately extend Lloris’s contract:
“@SpursOfficial don’t wait to extend Hugo’s contract just do it !!!! Privilege to have such a good goalkeeper at the club.”

Spurs have been through quite a few managerial changes in the last couple of seasons. Nuno Espirito Santo has had a roller coaster ride at the helm so far as he would be looking to end their 13-year trophy drought. Lloris has always reclaimed his starting position no matter the changes and that goes to show the kind of impact that he has at the club.
