Tottenham Hotspur ace Matt Doherty could be out with injury for the Newcastle United game
According to football.london, Tottenham Hotspur could be without Matt Doherty for the Newcastle United game after he suffered an injury during international duty.
The Republic of Ireland international joined the North London outfit last summer and did a good job under Jose Mourinho as he was defensively astute and also provided an attacking threat.
All in all, the 29-year-old made 29 appearances across all competitions, including 17 Premier League games last season. The Portuguese boss, however, left the club towards the end of last term and Nuno Espirito Santo was brought in as the new manager.
This would have been a huge boost for Doherty as he played several times under the 47-year-old at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
But in what was a twist of fate for the full-back, Nuno brought in Emerson Royal from Barcelona to feature in the right-back role. In fact, Japhet Tanganga has also been preferred in the role at times ahead of the Irishman.
This has led to the right-back only managing five games in all competitions this season but has failed to start a single league game. With a heavy fixture schedule after the international break, Nuno would have wanted to utilize his squad fully but has now suffered a setback.

Doherty has picked up a knock during international duty as he was substituted at half-time during a friendly against Qatar. While the extent of the injury is not known yet, the 29-year-old would be hoping to return soon and garner some much-needed minutes.
With Newcastle United on the horizon, it remains to be seen whether the full-back is going to make the trip to St. James’ Park on Sunday.
