Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing Lorenzo Insigne on a free transfer but face Inter Milan battle

According to Calciomercato (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne on a free transfer next summer.

It is believed that Fabio Paratici and Spurs have been closely monitoring the situation of Italian forward playing in Naples. The Lilywhites have had a mixed start to the season and an experienced forward could help to add some thrust and reliability to the North London club in the future.

The 30-year-old forward has scored 111 goals and provided 88 assists for the Serie A outfit in 406 games across all competitions so far. He has been a dependable asset for Napoli until and Nuno Espirito Santo could use a player of his calibre and experience in the squad.

Insigne has been a brilliant player for Napoli over the years

Paratici has been smart in his transaction so far and has already brought young prospects like Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini on loan to Tottenham Hotspur from the Italian League. It is understood that Napoli are willing to offer €3.5million-a-season (£3million) at most for Insigne’s contract renewal but the Azzuri forward is demanding more. The Napoli forward’s contract with his current club ends next summer following.

His current situation has also caught the eye of Inter Milan who are the other club interested in securing the services of the Italian footballer. Santo’s squad this season has been marred by their inability to convert in front of goal as their star striker Harry Kane is yet to open his account in the Premier League this season.

Insigne could add that level of skill combined with the experience that is required if a club wants to compete at a higher level and make its mark in important games consistently. The Italian forward could take some time to adapt to the English conditions considering that he has played his entire career in Italy. That being said any news about a move for the player is currently pretty premature but would certainly make a notable addition to this squad.
