Transfer News: Fenerbahce could be eyeing a surprise move for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ryan Sessegnon
According to Turkish outlet Takvim, (h/t Football.london), Fenerbahçe could be interested in a move for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ryan Sessegnon in January.
Even since making the £25m switch from Fulham, Sessegnon hasn’t managed to make the kind of impact that the players and staff were hoping from him. The 21-year-old hasn’t managed to get a consistent run of games for the Lilywhites and has only made only 14 appearances across all competition in his time with the North London club.
The former Fulham player was on loan at German outfit Hoffenheim last season where he played 29 matches for the Bundesliga club. He would have hoped to impress at Tottenham following his return to Egland but has been troubled by fitness issues.
The youngster was a dependable asset to Fulham and played 120 games across all competitions where he scored 25 goals and provided 18 assists for the Championship side. He has not been able to continue that same kind of consistency with Spurs and after making just 14 senior appearances since his move to N17 in 2019, is linked with a surprise switch to Turkey.
A step up to a top club like Tottenham Hostpur isn’t always an easy process. Ryan has gone down the pecking order with the North Londoners right now with the likes of Bryan Gill, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura, and Son Heung-Min surpassing the 21-year-old in this list.
The English professional footballer himself opened up on his performances while talking to talkSPORT (h/t Football.london) about the tricky career path that he has had ever since joining the Lilywhites
“In some ways, I haven’t even really got going at Spurs. It’s been stop-start since I’ve been there. I got there [to Spurs] and [Mauricio] Pochettino was there. I just came back from injury and then he got sacked and Mourinho came in and then I got sent on loan. It’s been hectic and stop and start. Like you say, it’s a fresh start for me to go back and show what I can do.”

These views highlight the kind of difficulty that the youngster has had to navigate in his nascent career so far. Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad have themselves faced an indifferent start to the season so far. Sessegnon would be hoping to come back stronger but only the future can tell if he will be able to make a long-term impact with Spurs.
