Former Tottenham Hotspur player David Ginola has highlighted what Spurs need to do in order to compete for trophies
In conversation with Sky Sports (h/t Football.London), David Ginola shared what Tottenham Hotspur need in order to challenge the best teams continuously.
Spurs managed to win against Newcastle United which could be termed as an emotional roller coaster for everyone involved in the game. Harry Kane finally got himself on the scoresheet in the Premier League this season in the 22nd minute of the game sandwiched between goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-Min in the first half.
The match had a tense finish as an own goal from Eric Dier led to some nervous moments during the end of the PL fixture against the Magpies. The Lilywhites resumed their season in fine form post the international break but former Spurs player David Ginola has highlighted his worries for his old club.
Ginola spoke about Tottenham’s need to invest in the best players so that they can play at a more consistent level against the bigger teams:
“The team is going to be fine. You look at this new era Newcastle and you think about Spurs, will it be enough in terms of money to invest in players? They have all the infrastructure to be a great club, but now they need to be able to attract the best players, without enough money you will not be able to do so. So, it’s important for Spurs to find some more money to compete against the best because I can’t believe I’m talking like that.”
Spurs have had a rocky start to the campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo but seem to have found their winning touch again in the last two matches in the Premier League. The Lilywhites haven’t won a major trophy in 13 years now and that seems to be a thorn in the side for a big club like Tottenham.

The North Londoners have faced a lot of upheaval and chaos in recent seasons with changes in hierarchy and coaches. The club have at times struggled with maintaining consistency in performances. A substantial investment is an important part of maintaining the credibility of any top club in professional football today and Spurs would be hoping to maintain the balance between young exciting prospects and the more experienced players that come with a slightly higher price tag.
