Newcastle United enter the race to sign Fiorentina striker and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Dusan Vlahovic
According to The Sun (h/t The Shields Gazette), Newcastle United are interested in jumping the queue to signing 21-year-old Serbian striker and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, Dusan Vlahovic.
The young striker has impressed with his performances with Fiorentina so far. He has scored 35 goals and provided 5 assists in 92 matches across all competitions for the Serie A club so far. The goal-scoring exploits of the youngsters have seemingly caught the eye of those around the footballing globe as Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with the 21-year-old recently.
Vlahovic was also said to be given a bumper contract which could have made him the highest earner in the Italian club’s history but there has been no real progress after that. The young striker’s current contract with the Italian club expires in 2023 which means that teams could be lining up to sign him at a significantly reduced price.
The Saudi-Arabia-led takeover of £305 million means that the Toons could now be looking at better financial resources and investments. With that in mind, it is being claimed that the Magpies have entered the race to sign the young Serbian striker who is also on Spurs’ radar.
The Tyneside-based club may not be able to offer him the luxury of playing at the most elite level across Europe but there is a sense of renewed enthusiasm at St James’ Park with the arrival of the new owners. It seems as though the club could finally be heading into a new positive direction even though they are currently languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table with only Norwich City F.C behind them.
The young striker could prove to be a great addition and long-term investment into the North London club and be a great backup to Harry Kane who has struggled to get going this season in the Premier League. The English striker, thankfully, opened his goal-scoring tally in the Premier League for Spurs with a smart finish against the Magpies on Sunday but a resourceful striker like Vlahovic could help promote healthier competitions upfront.
