Transfer News: Newcastle United seemingly interested in signing Harry Winks from Tottenham Hotspur in January
According to the Sun (h/t The Shields Gazette), Newcastle United are looking to sign 25-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks during the January transfer window.
There is a new buzz surrounding St James’ Park as the new owners of the club bring along with them a renewed sense of hope and optimism for the Toons. Newcastle United may have slumped to yet another demoralizing defeat to Spurs in the Premier League on Sunday but the toons could be touted to make a move for new players in the coming transfer window to help strengthen their squad.
The Magpies have apparently identified Winks as a potential target for their squad. The 25-year-old English international has gone down the pecking order for the North London club and a move elsewhere could resurrect his footballing career that seems to have come to a standstill.
The Spurs midfielder has only managed to conjure 2 PL appearances for the Lilywhites this season which has included a cumulative playing time of only 60 minutes so far. The English international was making great progress in his time under former manager Mauricio Pochettino but has had to endure a tough time in the last couple of seasons.
The magpies could be looking to make a swoop for the midfielder and his experience in England’s top-flight means that he would be able to adapt to the dynamics of the team much faster. He could also be a great long-term investment and get the ball rolling to help the Toons rebuild into a more exciting side.

Winks hasn’t had many chances to make his impact at the Lilywhites in the last couple of seasons and a move to another PL club could be a very feasible prospect for a player who would be trying to reignite his professional career. That being said any rumour for the English player leaving the North Londoners is tentative at this stage.
