Tottenham loanee Kion Etete shares thoughts after bagging his first senior league goal for Northampton Town
After the game against Stevenage, Tottenham loanee Kion Etete spoke (h/t Northampton Chronicle & Echo), about scoring his first senior league goal for Northampton FC against and how it was a ‘relief’ for him to get on the scoresheet.
The 19-year-old striker made his name for himself in the Tottenham U-18 squad where he bagged 10 goals and 2 assists in 15 matches across all competitions. He also had a great run with the Spurs U-23 squad where he scored 9 goals and provided 3 assists in 26 matches across all competitions for the team.
Scoring the first senior league goal can be a great experience for any budding footballer and Etete had to wait for some time to bag this one for the Cobblers.
The teenager spoke about the experience and the kind of relief he felt after getting on the scoresheet:
“It’s been a long time coming! Obviously, I had a good start with the cup game against Coventry but then that little bit of luck which I’ve needed in front of goal hasn’t really happened for me. There was definitely a bit of relief and it’s a weight lifted because I’ve been waiting for a long time to get that goal.”
Northampton manager Jon Brady also praised the teenager for his continuous effort and hard work on the pitch:
“He’s had his chances but he’s continued to work really hard, he’s never shirked anything and he got his reward tonight, so I’m delighted.”
The young striker would be looking to develop his game further with the Cobblers and eventually get on the scoresheet more often. Such loan spells have proven to be an effective way of helping young exciting prospects grow and nurture their skills.
